Our Theses

  • To successfully take our One Shot at Zero, diverse groups must converge.

A systems thinking approach that harnesses the motivations of corporates, startups, policymakers, investors, and more will accelerate the path to Zero more than if those actions are uncoordinated.

Decarbonization requires sectoral convergence. An interdisciplinary team that includes innovation, go-to-market, policy, and technology is required to achieve Zero.

  • Companies should look to climate technology partnerships as alternatives to carbon offsets that are much more strategic - and often much lower cost. Smart technology partnerships can be the lowest cost/ton decarbonization solution while setting companies up for success.

  • Partnerships with the right startups not only can help solve technical challenges, but can also lead to rapid market expansion when novel incumbent products are embedded in high-growth startup solutions

  • Islands - both literal and figurative - are ideal for controlled experimentation to test and deploy new climate & resilience technologies or approaches.

  • The energy transition will require more pervasive public/private engagement than ever before.

  • AI has the potential not just to reduce cost, but to transform a business. For example, utilities are just beginning to realize the potential of AI for predictive maintenance, grid operations, real-time matching of supply and load, smart meter analytics, workforce optimization, and more.

  • Innovation within leading incumbents can have a cascading ripple effect, influencing entire industries.
